Telecommunications Seminar supports local...
Omagh District Council’s Development Department, in conjunction with Invest Northern Ireland, hosted the first of this year’s series of Diary Dates which provided a comprehensive update on telecommunications provision in Northern Ireland and highlighted the benefits of high speed Broadband connections to local businesses. The seminar, entitled “Advances in Telecommunications and Benefits to Local Businesses” was held in the Training Room of Omagh District Council Offices on Wednesday, 3 February.
The event focussed particularly on the Next Generation Broadband initiative and Project Kelvin – the first direct telecommunications link to North America which was brought ashore in Portrush in June of last year. The seminar also gave local businesses the opportunity to question the impact of such initiatives in the Omagh District Council area.
In attendance at the event were Mr Paul Robinson who has responsibility for the Next Generation Broadband Initiative and is also Project Manager of Project Kelvin and Mr Fergus Innes, Vice-President of Sales Europe with Hibernia Atlantic Limited, the company which was awarded the contract to build and operate Project Kelvin.
The new international telecommunications link will interconnect with Northern Ireland’s existing telecommunications infrastructure at a number of locations throughout Northern Ireland, including Omagh.
