Dog Management event in Fintona

Omagh Community Safety Partnership and Omagh District Council focused on dogs at a recent ‘Paws a While’ event in Ashfield Gardens Community House Fintona.

The aim of the event was to address local concerns about dog fouling and responsible dog management in the areas of Ashfield Gardens and Dromore Road in Fintona and was also an opportunity for the Fintona community to meet the litter enforcement and dog control enforcement officers of the council, as well as the rural community safety warden.

Several dog owners availed of the opportunity to have their dogs micro-chipped free of charge at the event. This painless procedure takes only seconds and involves the insertion of a tiny microchip, carrying details of the dog’s and owner’s identity, under the skin at the back of the dog’s neck.

The Enforcement Officer (dog control), Annemarie McCann, also distributed neutering vouchers, which were provided by the Dogs Trust, to enable dog owners to have their dogs neutered at various vets free of charge.

In addition to providing free poop bag dispensers to help alleviate the problem of dog fouling in the Ashfield Gardens and Dromore Road area, the rural community safety warden, Karen Kerr-George, highlighted a range of Omagh Community Safety Partnership initiatives to address the safety concerns of the local communities.
